Program
Welcome to Sprint Camp - please see the event program for full details of the weekend activities
Save the date! The 14th Vancouver Sprint Camp is 15-17 February 2019 (it's a long weekend in Canada and USA so you get to recover on the Monday). Registration is now closed
New for 2019 - SI Air is coming to Sprint Camp. We have decided that everyone should experience the new high speed punching system that is SI Air so we are renting a full kit of SI Air sticks which will be assigned to each participant. So no need to register with your existing SI stick (unless it is an SI Air stick) - we will provide one for you at Registration.
Itinerary:
- Friday evening: training in North Vancouver
- Saturday all day: races and training in North Vancouver
- Sunday morning: races and training in Burnaby
Venues will be a mixture of urban, campus, park and forest. Cash prizes for the top runners at the end of the weekend.
Sprint Camp weekend is a fun-filled weekend of races, training sessions, coaching tips and opportunities for mingling with some of the best Sprint Orienteers in North America. If you enjoy the weekly WET events on our Urban maps then this event is for you. It will also be an excellent chance to get valuable training feedback from our coaching expert, Meghan Rance. We will not be providing beginner training or beginner courses. If you haven't been a regular attendee at the weekly WET events then feel free to sign up on the Why Just Run event which will be run as part of the Sunday activities.
This year we are starting the weekend with an Urban night event in North Vancouver - in the vibrant newly updated Lower Lonsdale area. This will be a training exercise to get you warmed up for the weekend so we will just be doing start/finish timing. Remember to bring a headlight. We have the usual 1 person and 2 person relays which are usually fast and furious. Sunday's event at BCIT will provide all sorts of challenges with our usual excitement of Setup and Chase races. The weekend includes training sessions to practice "starting on the run" and "memorizing the next leg" while enroute to a control. All valuable skills for the Sprint Orienteer.
Given the forecast for a warmer wetter winter we are hoping that there will not be a re-occurrence of the snow that has plagued the last two years of sprint camp. Then again - it is winter - so you could be lucky!
SPONSORS
Thank you to the Orienteering Association of BC and viaSport for the financial contribution towards Sprint Camp costs. We would also like to thank BCIT, Capilano University, City of Burnaby and North Vancouver Recreation Commission for granting us permission to orienteer in their parks and campuses.
