Jericho Beach Wednesday Evening Training

Description

Come down to Jericho Beach for the 10th WET of the year!

There will be two courses to run this Wednesday. There is the Word Hunt Score-O which is a Score-O format course done in three boxes. Each box has been assigned a word. The letters of the word have been spread throughout the box and are found at each control. To know what word the box bears, piece together the letters to find out! Within each box, one can get all the controls in any order they like and whichever controls they please. As long as one finds out what word the box carries, one is safe. If one returns and does not get the word correct, there is a +90 second penalty per word! One can carry writing implements if desired. This course covers the entire Jericho map and there will be a mix of forest and urban park running with some hills. The second course is a simple 3.0km point-to-point course that takes you through the Jericho Beach park and along the beach to the finish. There are less hills and less terrifying +90 second penalties.

6:15pm Introduction to Orienteering for Beginners

6:30pm Starts

8pm Course Closure, participants must report to the Finish before leaving.

Courses

The Word Hunt Score-O (~5000m)

• Three boxes. Three words. 28 controls. One runner to find them all.

The Simple Adventure Run (3000m)

• One course. 16 controls. Point-to-point fun.

Safety Precautions

Always use good judgement and common sense. Carry a whistle at all times. Headlamps are essential to see and be seen. Take care when crossing roads and parking lots. Watch out for other runners, cyclists, and trail/sidewalk users.

Please use the designated crossings marked on the map and do not play Frogger on 4th Ave.

Parking/Start Location:

The start location is by the concession stand on the east side of the park at the very western tip of Point Grey Road. There is parking found nearby in the parking lots near the concession stand as well as by the sailing centre. However, they are all pay parking. Street parking is mostly found on the west side of the park.
