Cypress Falls Wednesday Evening Training
July 30th 2014 6:30pm - 8:00pm
Organizer: Rachel Howard (Event Director)
Map: Cypress Falls
Another forest WET to get you ready for the COC at Whistler! Lots of contour detail and navigation in wooded terrain.
*Out of town COC participants and others please register by Wednesday morning so we know how many maps to print!
(This event has been shifted from Stanley Park because it is more relevant to the Whistler maps ).
Primary Organizers:
Event Director/Course Planner: Rachel Caulfield, Membership/Registrar: Karen Lachance, Trainers: Russel Porter and Stan Woods
Description
This is your last forest training opportunity before COCs! The area is beautiful and the weather should be sunny. There are some new unmarked trails and the vegetation has changed a bit since the map was last updated. Some run-able forest is not as run-able... and some light green areas are surprisingly run-able.
Schedule
6:15pm Introduction to Orienteering for Beginners
6:30pm Starts begin for both courses
8:00pm Course Closure, participants must report to the Finish by Course Closure Time.
Courses:
Three courses will be offered:
Beginner's is intended for first time or those very new to the sport. It will stay on trails and is approximately 2km.
Forest Beginners is intended for those with urban/park orienteering experience but less experience in the forest. It will be mostly trail with some off trail / trickier controls mixed in.
The advanced course controls are almost entirely off trail and hopefully will provide good practice for the upcoming COCs.
Safety Precautions:
There are lots of "cliffs" mapped and a large cliff/river along the east of the map. Please do not fall off cliffs!
Parking/Start/Finish Locations:
There is a small gravel lot just off the bend of Woodgreen Place.
Post-Event Dining:
TBA
