King Edward WET Wednesday Evening Training
March 26th 2025 6:00pm - 8:00pm
Organizers: Robyn Astridge (Event Director), Alton Ho (Event Director)
Map: King Edward West
Event Information
- This week’s WET will take place on the King Edward West map.
- The event lasts from 18:30 to 20:00; no one will be allowed to start after 19:45. Please arrive at 18:00 if you are new to orienteering and would like to receive some coaching.
- There will be three loops, each longer than the last. You have two options:
- If you are new to the sport or not super confident yet in your navigation, you can run as many loops as you like with a map in hand.
- If you want to challenge yourself, run a loop of the Camosun track with your map in your hand and memorise the course. Once you finish your lap of the track, ditch the map and execute your the loop to the best of your ability.
Map Information
- Scale: 1:5000
- Contour Interval: 2m
Meeting Location
- Meet at the Queen Elizabeth After School Care building, North-East of the Camosun track.
- For those taking transit, buses such as the 25 and the 33 run along W16th Avenue.
- For those driving, there is parking available along W16th Avenue, and plenty of side streets nearby.
Courses
- There are three courses of varying lengths (and similar technical difficulty):
- Loop 1: 1.2km
- Serves as a good introduction to the sport by staying nearby and offering some direction changes.
- Loop 2: 2.0km
- Goes a bit further out, making memorisation a bit more challenging.
- Loop 3: 3.3km
- Visits most of the map. We'll place an extra map at one of the further out controls in case you forget your route
- Loop 1: 1.2km
Notes
- It is highly likely it will be raining. Wear layers and bring a change of clothes. If you can, please bring a map bag.
- For those taking part in the Memory-O, bring a control description holder.
