Map: Grousewoods

This is the first time we run the Grousewoods course in the rainier, darker winter months so it should look like a whole new place! The forecast for wednesday is for extra wet and extra dark so come one, come all and run this area again for the first time. The Grousewoods area is chiefly residential with many oddly-curved streets conveniently inter-connected by a network of pedestrian trails. It is all on the side of a rather steep hill, so contour lines will need to be considered in route choice.

6:15pm Introduction to Orienteering for Beginners

6:30pm Starts

8pm Course Closure, participants must report to the Finish before leaving.

This week, we have 2 courses. A long course with a decent bit of elevation gain and some route choice. The short course is more suitable for beginners but will still have you sneaking through the foot paths between the streets.

Safety Precautions

Always use good judgement and common sense. Carry a whistle at all times. Headlamps are essential to see and be seen. Take care when crossing roads and parking lots. Watch out for other runners, cyclists, and trail/sidewalk users. Wooden bridging could be slick.

Also a friendly reminder that beyond the fence from many of these convenient and fun pedestrian foot paths is someone's back yard (marked in olive green). Please be respectful of people's property and privacy.

Parking/Start Location

Free parking is available on the East side of Nancy Greene way, just a few steps north of the Start-Finish. There is also plenty of on-street parking above and below the start-finish. The start / meeting area will be near the washrooms by the soccer field. If anything has to be moved (e.g. In case of extreme precipitation), a trail of pin flags will be used to show the way.

Post-Event Dining

Without volunteers, these events cannot take place. A hearty thanks to all those helping put this event on. If you would like to volunteer/help at upcoming WETs/WJRs or would like to organize a WET please let us know.
