"Dash" - One-person relay

Organizers: Brian Ellis (Event Director), Marg Ellis (Assistant), Joanne Woods (Membership), Ev Cousins (Assistant), Stan Woods (Coach)

A mass start, one-person relay on a new downtown map (Harbour Green Park), followed by free pizza for all those who attend the AGM for the Orienteering Assoc of BC. The AGM, which will be in the Coal Harbour Community Centre (Activity Room), starting at 7:30pm, will be mercifully short, and is open to all club members. Come and hear what your provincial association has been up to in 2017, and where it is going. Hey, even join the Board of Directors - nominations are open!

Please sign up for both the Dash and the AGM, if you plan to attend, so we know how much pizza to order. Vegetarian and gluten-free pizzas will be provided for those who wish.

Schedule

6:15pm Introduction to orienteering for beginners

6:30pm Mass Start

7:15pm Course Closure, participants must report to the Finish before leaving.

7:30pm OABC AGM starts

Courses

One course, built as two loops with multiple forking. You can do one loop or both. Harbour Green Park is a new 1:4000 ISSOM urban sprint map (2017). Note that any time spent in the Cactus Club Cafe, or shopping in the Vancouver Christmas Market (yes, they moved the Market to the Olympic Plaza this year, just in time for our event!) will still count toward your final race time....

Safety Precautions

Always use good judgement and common sense. Carry a whistle at all times. Headlamps are essential to see and be seen. Take care when crossing roads and parking lots. The park lawns will be water-saturated - probably wet and slippery if above 0C; maybe icy and slippery if below 0C! Watch out for other runners, cyclists, and trail/sidewalk users, as well as serious Christmas shoppers.

Parking/Start Location

Pay parking is available in the area (e.g. a pay lot to the west, just off Denman, N of Georgia. Transit and cycling are also good options. The start will be just outside the Coal Harbour Community Centre Activity Room, on the promenade (there is an outside door directly into the Activity Room - look for the O flag).

Post-Event Dining

Did we mention free pizza? Bring your own drink.
