August 30th 2017 6:30pm - 8:00pm
Organizers: Graeme Rennie (Event Director), Joanne Woods (Membership), Bruce Rennie (Coach), Robyn Rennie (Assistant)
Map: Whytecliff Park
Description
Come out to beautiful Whytecliff park for this week's wet and enjoy the summer while it lasts! Arguably GVOC's most picturesque map has some tricks up it's sleeve, and of course the tide will be low! ;) It's certainly worth the drive from the city.
This event will be a sprint camp style farsta with runners taking on four (elite/expert) or three (intermediate) loops that promise some confusing fast paced fun so please be ready to start at 6:45 for the exciting mass start! The 3.3km elite course has an expected winning time of 31 min
Schedule
6:15pm Introduction to Orienteering for Beginners
6:30pm Individual starts for beginners.
6:45pm MASS START for all Intermediate and Elite/Expert runners!
8:00pm Course Closure, participants must report to the Finish before leaving.
Courses
Elite/Expert (3.3km) Will feature all 4 loops and everything this park has to offer.
Intermediate/Expert (2.4km) Has 3 reduced loops and will not feature the greener forest loop.
Beginner (1.6km) A regular point to point course for children, new members or people seeking a more casual evening.
Safety Precautions
The primary concern on this map is slippery rocks and clifftops. Please exercise caution when crossing the beaches and only go as fast as you are capable. Also being a mass start event there will be lots of runners going different directions at the same time, please slow down on narrow paths and watch for oncoming runners or other park users.
Always use good judgement and common sense. Carry a whistle at all times. Take care when crossing roads and parking lots. Watch out for other runners, cyclists, and trail/sidewalk users.
Parking/Start Location
We will meet at the end of the round about at one of the picnic tables, see the map.
