Map: Ambleside Park
Thanks to everyone who came out for a beautiful evening at Ambleside beach. Turned into a chaotic session of picnic table orienteering with some running on the side. Consequently the formulation of results was complicated. For the Experts it is unclear who did both sides so just know that James had the winning time for the one sided group and Nate had the winning time for the both sides group (he had a distinct advantage in that he copied all controls in the "untimed" period). The team of Catherine and Charlie had the fastest time for the Both sides beginner group.
Looks like it will be a lovely evening to spend at the beach. Join us for one of the last WET events before dark settles in. We will meet at the Ambleside Concession picnic tables for an exercise in fitting the map to the features.
It is starting to get darker so a headlight might be necessary if you choose to do both loops.
Please register before noon on Wednesday to qualify for a map
6:15pm Introduction to Orienteering for Beginners
8pm Course Closure, participants must report to the Finish before leaving.
There are two options
- Expert - you will be given a blank map and a set of photographs. Match the photographs to features on the map and then choose your route and see if you have the correct features by finding the pin flags. There will be a Westside set and an Eastside set so you can pick your course length or do both. Please register for both if you decide to do both.
- Beginner - you will be given a map with a course on it and a set of photographs. Then you can see how a feature is represented on the map. Again you can choose to do either the Westside or Eastside option or both. Please register for both if you decide to do both.
Carry a whistle at all times.
Start and Finish is at the picnic tables outside the Concession - there is lots of parking closeby
