Rice Lake Wednesday Evening Training
September 17th 2014 6:30pm - 8:00pm
Organizers: Robyn Rennie (Event Director), Bruce Rennie (Course Planner)
Map: Rice Lake
Thanks to everyone who came out for the first seriously dark WET event of the season. Also it seems like the only rain shower this week occurred during our event.
Results are ordered by time with a comment showing the number of controls self-reported. Just as well we weren't penalizing late returnees! We had set 30 controls and congratulations to Scott Muma who visited 19 and returned within the 45 minutes. Most controls went to Nathan Detroit Barrett who visited 26 - all without a headlight - but returned 5 minutes late.

Description
This weeks training event will be a 45 minute score O event in the Rice Lake/Lynn Canyon area. Beginners can use a shorter time or ask for a suggested route if preferred.
HEADLIGHTS will be needed - although we will start in the daylight, it will be dark in the forest and the pin flags we are using don't have reflectors on them so that will add to the challenge. Remember to bring a whistle as they are now a requirement at the WET events.
Schedule
6:15 pm - Introduction to Orienteering for Beginners
6:30 pm - Mass Start
6:45 pm - we may stage a second mass start for latecomers.
7:45 pm - Course Closure for mass start participants
8:00pm - for everyone else. Participants must report to the Finish by Course Closure Time.
Courses:
This is a score event - you are given 45 minutes to find as many controls as possible. There are no points assigned to the controls and you will have to keep track of which ones you have visited so that we can produce results :)
Safety Precautions:
Please be careful crossing roads some of which have traffic. Be careful in the forest once it gets dark.
Parking/Start/Finish Locations:
We are starting just off the map at Evelyn Park as there is parking there in a small lot next to the tennis courts and also in the lane and cul de sac nearby.
Post-Event Dining:
TBA
