Description

Thanks to everyone who came out to this week's training event, and to everyone who helped David and I put it on (Jiri gets extra credit for sticking around to pick up some flags after the downpour started - thanks!). It certainly was WET!

Come out to Jericho for a fun run/walk along the beach, across open fields, and through an intricate system of forest paths. Please keep out of environmentally sensitive areas (marked on the map) and garden beds. Any water crossing must be made using bridge or trail. Remember to sign up online by Tuesday evening to reserve a map!

Volunteers:

Course Organizers - Lindsay Mackas-Burns and David Wu, Membership - John Rance, Trainer - Karen Lachance

Courses:

There will be two point-to-point courses to choose from, one for "Beginners" (~2.5 km) and one for "Experts" (~5 km). In addition to covering more ground, the Expert course offers much more route choice.

Safety Precautions:

Some sections of this park are prone to flooding and general muckiness. While there will always be options for avoiding the worst parts, we advise dressing for function rather than fashion this week. Jericho Beach is also home to an impressive amount of invasive blackberry, so long pants are a good idea (especially for those running the Expert course). It will be dark, so bring a headlamp or flashlight!

We did notice a few tents set up in the woods. The course is set to avoid these areas, but as always, remember to bring your whistle (and avoid unneccesary bushwhacking).

Parking/Start/Finish Locations:

We will be meeting at the parking lot on the eastern edge of the park (see map below). Parking is free and the lot can be accessed at the end of either Point Grey Rd or West 2nd Ave.

Post-Event Dining:

The Cove Pub (3681 West 4th) - burgers, beers, and board games!

Acknowledgements:

Without volunteers, these events cannot take place. A hearty thanks to all those helping put this event on. If you would like to volunteer/help at upcoming WETs/WJRs or would like to organize a WET please let us know.
