King Edward WET Wednesday Evening Training
September 2nd 2026 6:00pm - 8:00pm
Organizer: Ben Smith (Event Director)
Map: King Edward West
Registration
Please register online by Tuesday night (at midnight) so we can print enough maps. Link to follow!
Meeting location
It's looking wet, so we'll meet under the canopy at Queen Elizabeth Annex (Crown and 27th). See the Google Map below for a pin.
Courses
There will be 3 loops on offer of varying difficulties. Do as many or as few as you wish.
For an advanced training option, try doing the courses as a memory exercise. Run a lap of the baseball field while trying to memorise the course as much as possible - focus on the important details and ignore the minutiae. On this map, the most important aspects are the trail network, street grid and school buildings. On the longer loops I'll stash an extra map part way around the loop (or just run with a map in your pocket if you really don't trust yourself!).
Schedule
- 18:00: Check-in opens, with optional training for newcomers to orienteering
- 18:30: Start opens
- 20:00: Course closes. All participants must report to the finish before leaving!
Wednesday Evening Training
- What should I bring? Wear something comfortable that you don't mind getting a little dirty! If it's wet outside, you might want to consider a change of shoes and socks! A headlamp or flashlight and reflective clothing is critical in the winter months (late September to April). A compass is optional (we have extra ones for borrowing). For added safety, a whistle is mandatory for all GVOC events. Read more in the WET Introduction to Orienteering.
When should I sign up? Please sign up by Tuesday night so that we can print enough maps, although we have extra maps if you forget.
How much does it cost? All WETs are free with yearly membership.
Club membership: See details on the club home page. Please complete before your first event!
