McCartney Creek WET Wednesday Evening Training
June 18th 2025 6:00pm - 8:00pm
Organizers: Caoimhe Murray (Event Director), John Rance (Coach)
Map: McCartney Creek
Last minute updates:
- There will be spare maps so come join even if you missed the sign up deadline, we'd love to see you. You will require a club membership to participate and it can be purchased here if you don't have it already 2025 Membership Link
- The courses are quite short so it'll be a fun event for kids. It's a lovely open forest area and there will be stickers for anyone who might be more motivated by a sticker than a pin flag!
This week we'll have four training exercises at McCartney Creek and I anticipate that most people will get one or two done in the evening so come out and practice a new still or refine an existing one! The options you'll have are:
1) Handrails and Catching Features
2) Attack Points
3) Relocation
4) Developing Your Control Strategy
For anyone who likes to read ahead, here's a link to the training instructions McCartney Creek Training Instructions - no maps and there will also be print outs at the event for people to read over.
For more advanced folks, there will be the option to use maps with the trails removed. This will encourage (ok, force!) you to use forest features like contours, vegetation details etc. It should also make the relocation exercise more interesting. Similarly, feel free to use a larger area of the map than suggested and commit to looking at your feet and not looking around when you're "getting lost" for the relocation exercise so that you can really work on this skill.
We'll aim to have some coaching available for folks who would like it and it should be a good warm up event for the upcoming McCartney Creek WJR scheduled for July 13th. Looking forward to seeing you there!
I'll have a cooler with sodas so plan to stay for a chat and soda at the end! If you have a favorite or fancy an adult beverage feel free to bring it along and pop it in the cooler while you're out.
