McCartney Creek Bonus Weekly Virtual Training
December 27th 2020 10:00am - January 3rd 2021 11:00pm
Organizers: Daniel Widmann (Event Director), Meghan Rance (Course Planner), Joanne Woods (Membership)
Map: McCartney Creek
Since most people are sticking close to home the last week of December, we are adding a bonus forest orienteering opportunity at McCartney Creek that can be done socially distanced anytime between Dec 27- Jan 3. The event is free but all participants must be a member of GVOC in 2020. 2021 membership renewal will start in January.
It is a virtual event with pin flags in the terrain. Please don't touch the flags as you pass by.
Maps will be provided as PDFs and on MapRunF (Canada > British Columbia > Vancouver > McCartney Creek > Darkside and Expert Short). Because our insurance policy requires that everyone who participates in a GVOC event is a member of the club, please email gvoc.membership@gmail.com for a copy of the event map.
It is strongly recommended that you run with a paper copy of the map even if you are using MapRunF because the terrain is difficult and the GPS signal is imperfect in many places
The start is at Blueridge Park near the corner of Berkley Ave and Hyannis Dr. There is street parking nearby. https://goo.gl/maps/
Please be aware that the orienteering is technically complex. These courses are NOT suitable for beginner orienteers.
Courses Description:
- Expert Short : 4km
- Elite (Darkside): 6.6 km
PS: don't forget to protect your map from rain/wet in a sheet protector once printed .
Finally email your results for posting the results. Enjoy.
