Central Park WET Wednesday Evening Training
March 20th 2019 6:30pm - 8:00pm
Organizers: Mike Rascher (Event Director), Joanne Woods (Membership), Laurent Mingo (Coach)
Map: Central Park
Description
Classic point to point course in Central Park. Elite and Expert have easy attack points from larger gravel paths. Novice all on big gravel/paved trails. Some smaller trails have differing amounts of deadfall from last winter's storms. Many of them are still quite soggy - expect wet feet. This map has the annoying odd formline that looks like a small trail - don't be fooled (like me). Some snow and ice last Saturday on the open sections - hopefully the next few warms days will melt most of that. Only one homeless tent spotted off trail - don't know if that's occupied. Usual amounts of garbage in places. Be respectful of other users of remote sections of the park. I was out last Wednesday and didn't see any, but I don't know what the warm weather will bring out.
Schedule
6:15pm Introduction to Orienteering for Beginners
6:30pm Starts
8:00 pm Course Closure, participants must report to the Finish before leaving.

Safety Precautions
Always use good judgement and common sense. Carry a whistle at all times. Headlamps are essential to see and be seen. Take care when crossing roads and parking lots. Watch out for other runners, cyclists, and trail/sidewalk users.
Parking/Start Location:
Western parking lot along Boundary Ave - just south of the outdoor swimming pool.
Post-Event Dining
The Captain's Boil on Kingway. Not worried about the plastic apocolypse? How about food poached in a plastic bag and served that way?
