BC Children's Hospital Wednesday Evening Training
February 28th 2018 6:30pm - 8:00pm
Organizers: Alistair Howard (Event Director), Erica Lay (Controller), Jules Tough (Membership), Joanne Woods (Membership), Alistair Howard (Course Planner)
Description
A fun urban map around the Children's Hospital, Eric Hamber Secondary, and Oak Meadows Park. There's been some construction, but I hope I've caught any trouble areas. There's a fair amount of traffic around the hospital and we cross 33rd Ave, so please wear something visible and bring a light. Start is in Braemar Park (King Ed Canada Line is 600m away) and there's a small covered area in case of rain. And a warning - these are my first ever courses - so be nice!
Schedule
6:15pm Introduction to Orienteering for Beginners
6:30pm Starts
8pm Course Closure, participants must report to the Finish before leaving.
Courses
Standard point-to-point courses with a shorter, beginner friendly (~ 2.2 km) course and a longer (~4.4 km) slightly trickier course. Beginners can try either, and one may have a "choose-your-own-adventure" box.
Safety Precautions
Always use good judgement and common sense. Carry a whistle at all times. Headlamps are essential to see and be seen. Take care when crossing roads and parking lots. Watch out for other runners, cyclists, and trail/sidewalk users.
