Which course should I run?
Are you brand new to orienteering? You should probably try the beginner, novice or intermediate courses. If you find it too easy, you can always come back and try another once you're done!
Navigating around the forest is more challenging than most of our Wednesday Evening Training events. Even though the elite course is only 6.5km, it will still take the best orienteers about an hour, due to the technical navigation and challenging terrain. Unless you're very confident in your off-trail navigation skills, we recommend you avoid the Elite course!
The Adventure course is intended for those who want a longer run with relatively easy navigation. Even if you are a hard core North Shore trail runner this course will take you to places you've never been.
This event is also the Lower Mainland Cadet Championships. Cadets will be assigned to either the Beginner or Novice course, depending on their age. If this is course is too easy, cadets are more than welcome to run the Intermediate course afterwards!
There may be minor changes to course lengths and climbs but the relative length and difficulty will remain the same.
What time should I be there?
You can start any time between 10am and 11am. Courses close at 1pm - please be back by then so we don't send out a search party for you!
If you're new to the sport and would like some coaching, it helps if you come a little earlier. We'll then be able to talk you through the map, give you some pointers, and still set you off on time.
Safety
- All competitors MUST carry a whistle while on the course. Whistles can be purchased from the registration table for $1.
- All competitors MUST report to the finish, even if you don't complete your run. Otherwise we'll send out a search party to look for you!
- Be alert for mountain bikes.
NEED new Orienteering gear? There will be demo items (compasses, SI Sticks, course description holders, magnifiers, and gaitors) from the O Store available to see before you buy.
