Description

Happy 2016! It's time to renew your membership! Please remember to bring your membership fee and renew your membership! Renewals are $15 and first-time orienteers are $10.

Schedule

6:15pm Introduction to Orienteering for Beginners

6:30pm Starts

8pm Course Closure, participants must report to the Finish before leaving.

Courses

There will be 3 courses available!

  • "Beginner" will be in the standard point-to-point format and will be a shorter distance with easier-to-find controls. This is best for 1st timer orienteers.
  • "Intermediate" will be in the dogbones format, but only using the "Dogbones 1" map. Run this course if you want more of a challenge or a different format, but don't want to run the full distance of the "Advanced" course.
  • "Advanced" will also be in the dogbones format, but you will use both Dogbones 1 and Dogbones 2 maps. This course covers the entire Ambleside area and has more controls, so will be the longest.

Take note that the map contains areas of beach that are below the high-tide line. There are also some fenced off construction areas, including some sections of the beach, please keep out of these :)

Safety Precautions

Please take extra care while running this course! There shouldn't be too many park users at the time, but it be dark (and rainy?) and there are road crossings, parking lots, and even a train track, so take your time wherever necessary!

Please carry a GVOC whistle. We sell them at every event for $1 - what a bargain!

Parking/Start/Finish Locations

We'll be meeting just North of the "Ambileside Beach Cafe", same as some previous events. See the map for the exact location of the meeting place. In case of rain, there is a roof overhang for shelter. Plenty of free parking around the area.
