Map: BC Children's Hospital

Description

Come enjoy the benefits of potential daylight in the savings and wander around the outlying areas of Children's Hospital this Wednesday!

Extensive construction on the BC Children's Hospital site is making our map a little out of date. However, through liberal use of the red-striped "Out-of-Bounds" symbol, we can squeeze yet another event out of it!

In this WET, any area marked with the "Out-of-Bounds" symbol:

  • Will be out of bounds (forbidden to enter) for the purposes of the event
  • May look completely different from what is shown beneath the red stripe (eg: new buildings, new carparks)
  • May or may not be fenced off

I've made a couple of small updates to the map, but for the most part, any major changes have been 'striped'...That being said, the main affected area seems to be the central part of the hospital, so try to avoid thoughts of cutting through this area, as it will likely result getting stuck.

Schedule

6:15 pm - Introduction to Orienteering for Beginners

6:30 pm - Starts begin for both courses

8:00 pm - Course Closure, participants must report to the Finish by Course Closure Time.

Courses:

Standard point to point courses for longerish (4-5km) and shorterish (3km) distance, appropriate for beginners and families...although, both courses are very appropriate for beginners and families, so just sign up for the longer one:)

There is a butterfly on the longer course. For those of you not familiar with the lepidopterans, can see here. http://baoc.org/wiki/Training/Description_of_a_But...

Safety Precautions:

As we'll be gallivanting around the hospital and surrounding streets, there is a fair amount of traffic to be mindful of, so don't be reckless! Look both ways! Bright Colours! Loud noises!

I've also been informed that there are currently rats the size of watermelons living in the construction areas, so I'd be careful of shortcutting through those areas. But for serious, as there is quite a bit of construction, try to stay clear of this and for the most part, the central area of the hospital is completely torn apart, so better to just stay out...unless you know something that I don't?

Parking/Start/Finish Locations:

Eastern corner of the mall/parking lot, there's a sort of courtyard where we'll be setup. Fairly accurate location of what I'm blathering about is shown by the pin on the map. If we get kicked out of there, then we may relocate directly behind the mall by the NW corner of 26th and Laurel.

Post-Event Dining:

Also TBA, but it will be delicious.
