False Creek Wednesday Evening Training
December 7th 2011 6:30pm
Organizer: Christoph Rufenacht (Organizer)
Map: False Creek
Event Report:
Thanks to all who came out on a cold but dry night of orienteering. The regular course results were very competitive, with Stephen Lerch posting the fastest time with Chris Adachi and Russell Porter not far behind.
On the long course, Thomas comfortably had the fastest time with Stefano and Jared rounding out the top three.
Thanks to Stefano and Sergio who helped gather up some of the control flags afterwards.
I have 2 point-to-point courses set up for this week's WET. The regular course is 4.0km in length and there will also be a long course of 5.6km for those wanting to get some more distance in. The courses will weave through Granville Island and the south side of False Creek. The long course will have all of the controls that the regular course does, with some added controls for distance. I would suggest that only those folks that are typically in the 5 fastest in WET's or do the Elite course in the WJR series sign up for the long course to ensure that you are back for the 7:45pm cut-off time.
Individual starts, starting at 6:30pm. Take care as there are several boardwalks around the course that will likely be slippery with rain, frost or maybe even snow! Please take care when reading the maps as there are several out of bounds areas indicated, both for construction as well as to stay out of inner courtyards of apartment complexes. Please respect the people that live there and stay out of those areas so that we can continue to run WET's on this map.
Courses will focus on route choice, with quick decisions required exiting controls. Should I go left or right around that building? will be a frequent question.
Meet at the covered are just north of the grassy knoll as shown on the map.
