Skeena WET Wednesday Evening Training
August 26th 2026 6:00pm - 8:00pm
Organizer: Jonathan Harris (Event Director)
Map: Skeena Terrace
Redevelopment of this excellent little sprint area has been delayed, so we get to use it again!
Registration
Registration/start will be just south of the field behind Thunderbird Community Centre. Beginners are encouraged to arrive early to receive coaching.
Please sign up by Tuesday night (at midnight) so that we can print enough maps.
Access
The start location is easily walkable from Rupert station, and is close to the Central Valley Greenway for cyclists. The nearest parking lots are only for residents or community centre users, but there is plenty of free street parking.
Courses
- Beginner: A short course suitable for those new to the sport. Family friendly.
- Intermediate: An ideal starting point for anyone not quite ready to jump into the chaos of the loops, or for beginners feeling up for an encore.
- Loops: 2 sprint loops with some optional "complications" in the form of fake barriers and fake multilevel. Intermediate orienteers should feel comfortable attempting the basic versions, but the advanced versions should prove a challenge for elites. Control description holders highly recommended for those wanting the full experience!
Schedule
- 18:00: Registration opens
- 18:30: Start opens
- 20:00: Course closes. All participants must report to the finish before leaving!
- After: Bin 4 Burger Lounge is a good option nearby for anyone interested in a group meal after the event
Wednesday Evening Training
- What should I bring? Wear something comfortable that you don't mind getting a little dirty! If it's wet outside, you might want to consider a change of shoes and socks! A headlamp or flashlight and reflective clothing is critical in the winter months (late September to April). A compass is optional (we have extra ones for borrowing). For added safety, a whistle is mandatory for all GVOC events. Read more in the WET Introduction to Orienteering.
When should I sign up? Please sign up by Tuesday night so that we can print enough maps, although we have extra maps if you forget.
How much does it cost? All WETs are free with yearly membership.
Club membership: See details on the club home page. Please complete before your first event!
