Try orienteering - the world's best recreational activity (we think!). Learn Orienteering is a fantastic introduction to the sport.

  • Family-friendly: fun for the whole family
  • For all ages: Courses for kids, youth and adults
  • Welcome beginners: New to the sport? You're in the right place!
  • Easy to Try: We'll show you how it works

World Orienteering Week - WOW! - marks GVOC's annual event aimed at introducing newcomers to the sport. Our loops are designed to be short and beginner-friendly. The first loop is 800 metres and every successive loop adds 400 metres with some new locations and different ordering. Start with the first loop and work your way up or try any loop that you like. You can sign up for one loop and then try them all. There will be plenty of maps. The total distance is 6000 metres as the crow flies.

If you're new to orienteering, we encourage you to arrive between 6pm and 7pm for some coaching.

If you've orienteered before, please invite a friend that hasn't.

Full electronic SI timing - you can borrow a SI stick for the evening from the friendly people at registration. No pin flags.

We are meeting beside the parking lot at the top of the park. There are some standing shelters in case of rain. This map snippet shows the start triangle (S) and the finish circles (F) just west of the parking lot at the top of the park:

The only road crossing is the road leading to the top near the restaurant. Be careful and mindful of the other park users. No crossing any areas bordered by fences, chains, tape or that plastic mesh material. That includes any areas coloured olive or dark green on the map. If it's wet it could be slippery in places.

This event is free to members of an orienteering club. To join the club please do this before signing up for the event- the link on the website is here. People trying orienteering for the first time ever, receive 50% off their membership fees - use the Promo Code NEW

If you are not a member of the club, we invite you to join. There is the option of a day of event membership for $5.

Thank you for registering in advance so we have an idea of how many maps to print.

If you have any problems with registration please contact gvoc.membership@gmail.com
