Briefing
Please come out and join us for a fun WJR at Cypress Falls Park: a beautiful area with some very interesting rock features and challenging orienteering.
Schedule
- 9:30-10:00 Registration
- 10:00-10.30 Starts
- 12:30 Course closure (You must be back by this time even if you have not completed your course!)
Please park in the Cypress Falls car park. There should be space for about 30 cars but it is also used by other groups. If it is full there is often parking along Woodgreen Dr just before you enter from the Upper Levels.
Registration
- The deadline for registering is Friday 21st March at midnight. You can see who has signed up here
Courses
Please note that Cypress Falls presents technically and physically challenging terrain where it is easy to bite off more than you can chew. If you are new to forest navigation, sticking to the Beginner course is recommended.
- Beginner - 0.8 kms, ~40m climb : Controls are on trails. Suitable for those who are new to orienteering or families with young children.
- Intermediate 1 - 1.5 kms, ~130m climb : Controls are along or close to trails and along major handrails. Some route choice. Suitable for those who have orienteered in the forest before and would like to develop their skills further.
- Intermediate 2 - 2.9 kms, ~190m climb : For orienteers with some experience looking to challenge themselves with some slightly off trail controls and longer route choice legs.
- Short Advanced - 3.6 kms, ~210m climb : Controls are off-trail, plenty of route choice. Same difficulty as the long advanced, suitable for strong orienteers who can navigate confidently in the forest but who'd prefer not to do the full length course.
- Long Advanced - 5.4 kms, ~340m climb : Technically and physically challenging course covering the full extent of the west side and part of the east. Please only sign up for this course if you are comfortable in terrain that is challenging both physically and mentally. For reference, last year's Elite course was 5.9km and won in approximately 70 minutes.
Volunteers
We are looking for a few volunteers to help out with collecting controls, parking and general logistics. No experience or special skills required - if you are available to help please email yj9harris@gmail.com. You can still run!
