Results are posted by course - apologies though because for some people there will be no result for some of the courses. The club was trying a new download system (this was quite a complicated event to setup) and it only allowed 6 downloads per person. Sometimes the download unit registered more than one download for that course.
We will fix it for for the next event that has a similar format.
This WJR will be a "training" day to help prepare for Sprint Camp. The motivation for this WJR format came from the TED Talk "When performing gets in the way of Improving" by Eduardo Briecno. https://youtu.be/KaiwGb0csas It does not speak about orienteering, but it is worth listening to.
There will be six loops, in total:
2 loops focusing on reading control descriptions,
2 loops focusing on keeping the running flow or speed through the control, and
2 loops focusing on compass bearings.
Runners can do as many of the 6 loops as they like and take a break between each loop.
If you want to do the control description loops as a head to head race that will be possible.
The event will be set up similar to sprint camp - with a race package to read prior to the event, a series of short events with rest in between, a chance to assess and work on different orienteering skills, and an opportunity to socialize as there will be a post WJR social event. We can eat at the park after the event or if the weather is rainy, we can go the Woods house and socialize there. This will be determined closer to the day.
Registration - please register by Friday Jan 24th at midnight, as maps will be printed first thing Saturday morning.
PARKING - is different than all the other events we have had at Blue Mountain Park. Approach the park by driving along Blue Mountain St and turning onto Winslow. Park on the North side of Blue Mountain Park on Winslow Ave as the Start & Finish area will be located at the Scout Hall 1040 Winslow Ave. King Albert Ave, Floyd Ave. Gatensbury St. and Porter St. will be "Out of Bounds". Unfortunately we were not able to gain access to the Scout Hall, and therefore the park washrooms will be "out of bounds" until you have completed the control description course. In needed, please use the washroom at the Safeway located on Austin Ave prior to arriving at the venue.
Schedule on the day will be posted prior to the event and in the course handout.
If anyone would like to volunteer to help with coaching between loops, that would be appreciated. Please email Joanne by clicking on her name at the top of the event page.
