IMPORTANT UPDATE:

There is an extreme weather event forecast for the lower mainland overnight Saturday 17th/Sunday 18th August. It should have blown through by Sunday mid-morning. However please be prepared for rain and strong winds. This means that there could be more debris on the ground that the organizers anticipated. Also drag out those rain coats and bring a change of clothes.

Come out and join us for a fun WJR at Cypress Falls Park: a beautiful area with some very interesting rock features and challenging orienteering. This area is slated for development in the coming years so come enjoy it while you can!

Schedule

  • 9:30-10:30 Registration
  • 10:00-11:00 Starts
  • 12:30 Course closure (You must be back by this time even if you have not completed your course!)

Parking

  • Please park along Eagle Lake Access Road to the North of the Pop-Up Village parking lot, or alternatively in the lot itself.

Registration

  • The deadline for registering is Friday 16th August at midnight. You can see who has signed up here

Volunteers

We are looking for a few volunteers to help out with map printing, putting out and collecting controls, and bringing gear to / from the locker. No experience or special skills required - if you are available to help please email gvoc.admin@gmail.com.

Courses are being finalized and distances will be added shortly but we'll have:

  • Intermediate 1 : Controls are at or near trails. Suitable for those who have orienteered a few times before and would like to try some forest orienteering.
  • Intermediate 2 : Controls are a little further from trails and along major handrails. Some route choice. Suitable for those who have orienteered in the forest before and would like to develop their skills further.
  • Short advanced : Controls are off-trail, plenty of route choice. Same difficulty as the long advanced, suitable for strong orienteers who can navigate confidently in the forest but who'd prefer not to do the full length course.
  • Long advanced : Controls are off-trail. Plenty of route choice. Please only sign up for this course if you are comfortable in terrain that is challenging both physically and mentally. For reference, last year's Elite course was 5.9km and won in approximately 70 minutes.
