Barnet Marine Park Wednesday Evening Training
May 8th 2019 6:30pm - 8:00pm
Organizers: Scott Muma (Host), John Rance (Coach), Joanne Woods (Membership)
Map: Barnet Marine Park
Description
Barnet Marine Park is a quiet ocean-front park with sandy beaches, picnic tables, and fishing pier on the Burrard Inlet. The park gate closes at "dusk" so there will be time after the event for relaxing, but unfortunately food services are closed until summer so bring your own picnic!
Schedule
6:15pm Introduction to Orienteering for Beginners
6:30pm Beginner Starts / Head Starts
6:45pm Dog Bones Mass Start
7:45 pm Course Closure, participants must report to the Finish before leaving.
Courses
The beginner course is a point to point.
Advanced course is a dog bones (score-o with paired controls).
Both courses require crossing train tracks, use caution and let the trains go first. There is one overpass bridge across the tracks if you can't wait.
Safety Precautions
Always use good judgement and common sense. Carry a whistle at all times. Take care when crossing roads and parking lots. Watch out for other runners, cyclists, and trail/sidewalk users.
Watch for off leash dogs.
Trains always have the right of way.
Parking/Start Location:
Immediately after entering from Barnet Highway turn left and proceed to the west part of the parking lot.
Post-Event Dining
Bring a picnic or have something delivered to the park?
