Garden City Wednesday Evening Training
February 6th 2019 6:30pm - 8:00pm
Organizers: Jeremy Gordon (Course Planner), Joanne Woods (Membership)
Map: Garden City
Description
Come out to a real Winter WET this week. Warming clothing mandatory. Ski's optional...
Garden City park is small but with a few lakes and lots of little gardens to navigate around. Expect some detailed control-picking and route-choice as you criss-cross the park a few times.
Schedule
6:15pm Introduction to Orienteering for Beginners
6:30pm-7:15pm - Individual Starts
6:45pm - Registration closes
8:00pm Course Closure, participants must report to the Finish before leaving.
Courses
There are two courses. The longer one is pretty much the same as the shorter one, with the addition of a leg out to another nearby park for a few more controls.
Unfortunately, this second park has some new paths and areas that aren't on the map, so just head for the control and don't try to navigate too exactly!
Safety Precautions
Always use good judgment and common sense. Carry a whistle at all times. Headlamps are essential to see and be seen. Take care when crossing roads and parking lots. Watch out for other runners, cyclists, and trail/sidewalk users.
Watch out for icy patches.
Parking/Start Location:
Parking is at Henry Anderson Elementary School off Alberta St. There is cover if raining/snowing.
Post-Event Dining
