Yaletown Wednesday Evening Training
October 10th 2018 6:30pm - 8:00pm
Organizers: Jeremy Gordon (Event Director), Joanne Woods (Membership)
Map: Yaletown
Description
This event will be the last one to reuse leftover maps from the 2018 Sprint Camp
Run (or walk) the streets and parks of Vancouver's Yaletown. Do it as a Sprint training exercise, with short, intense intervals of 3 or 4 controls followed by a cool-down walk to the next mid-course Start. Or, just run it as a single course, with the mid-course Starts as extra controls. (Don't worry, it will make sense when you see the map!).
There will be two courses - one 4.3km full-length and the other ~2km with a suggested turn-around point on the long course.
Schedule
6:15pm - Introduction to Orienteering for Beginners
6:30pm - Course open
7:15pm - Last start
8:00pm - Course Close - all participants *must* report back to the Finish before leaving (so, we know you're not lost)
Start Location
Meet at south entrance to Roundhouse Community Centre in Yaletown (inside if raining). Look for the "Orienteering" sign.
Easy access by transit or bike, or payparking in surrounding area.
Safety Precautions
Always use good judgement and common sense. Carry a whistle at all times. Headlamps are essential to see and be seen. Take care when crossing roads and parking lots. Watch out for other runners, cyclists, and trail/sidewalk users.
