Organizers: Michel Roberge (Assistant), Hilary Anderson (Event Director), John Rance (Coach), Karen Lachance (Coach), Jeremy Gordon (Assistant), Joanne Woods (Membership), Jules Tough (Membership)
Description
This new map is small but varied, including wooded areas, open parkland and sports fields, as well as the buildings of Kensington Arena, Kensington Outdoor Pool and Burnaby North Secondary School.
If any of the sports fields are in use during the WET, please walk around the field and don't disturb the players.
Schedule
6:15pm Introduction to Orienteering for Beginners
6:30pm Starts
8pm Course Closure, participants must report to the Finish before leaving.
Courses
The BEGINNER course is suitable for first timers or those wanting a short and easy option. It uses a variety of features to practice map reading and to learn the symbols on control descriptions.
The LOOP A and LOOP B courses explore different parts of the map but are about the same length and difficulty with some route choice and harder navigation than the BEGINNER course. Run either loop or both, as you wish. For added race training, run against a partner with the opposite loop sequence.
Safety Precautions
Always use good judgement and common sense. Carry a whistle at all times. Take care when crossing roads and parking lots. Watch out for other runners, cyclists, and trail/sidewalk users.
Parking/Starting Location
We will meet in the parking lot at the corner of Fell Avenue and Frances Street in Burnaby.
Post event dining
Suggestion: X-SITE Grill & Bistro, 4625 Hastings St, Burnaby - "mega value with a mini price"
