Super-Duper WETS (not to be confused with SuperWET)
This week's event is at Central Park in Burnaby and is Super-Duper in two ways - firstly, we will be celebrating John Rance's birthday with a post event pot luck (at the picnic tables near the start/finish) and secondly the event format includes Box-O features.
The beginner course will be approximately 2.5-3.0km and will be a point to point format through various interesting urban and forest areas of the park. The intermediate and expert courses will be in a Box-O format - that is, a combination of point to point and Score-O. On the maps, there will be a number of boxes representing areas in which there will be a number of controls, the runner will need to visit some but not all of the controls within each box - the specific controls chosen and the route/order of controls within each box will be up to the runner (although all boxes must be visited). The idea is that in addition to navigation and running speed, the runner will need to think on the run in order to plan her controls/course within the next box. A few other notes:
- since runners will have route/control choices, the course distances are guidelines;
- the intermediate and expert courses are similar although the intermediate is slightly easier/shorter;
- there is no scoring - you just need to visit the required number of controls per box.
Please bring a little something for the potluck - bring whatever you like but some suggestions include salad, fruit, cheese and crackers/ bread, meat balls, chicken wings, beverages, chips. A birthday appropriate dessert will be provided.
