PNE (Vancouver) - Rennie's Event Wednesday Evening Training
March 29th 2017 6:30pm - 8:00pm
Organizers: Bruce Rennie (Controller), Robyn Rennie (Event Director), Graeme Rennie (Assistant), Joanne Woods (Membership)
Map: PNE
Description
This weeks WET event is on the PNE map however we will be exploring areas that are around and outside of the central PNE area. The theme for this event is to use large features as attack points. So practice using an obvious feature so that you don't need to pay as much attention along the route. However the control may not be on the obvious feature so read the map carefully once you reach the attack point.
We will meet at the covered area at Dr AR Lord Elementary School off East Pender Street and south of the PNE. See the Map reference below.
Adventure = New to Navigation (Orienteering) with Long and Short running options
O-Dash = Experienced Orienteers with Long and Short running options
Schedule
6:15pm Introduction to Orienteering for Beginners
6:30pm Starts
8pm Course Closure, participants must report to the Finish before leaving.
Courses
Adventure Long = This course is for those interested in a long run but new to navigation! The course is 4.6 km long as the crow flies so you can bet you'll be running farther! There are lots of controls to keep your mind busy while your legs churn!
Adventure Short (Beginner) = For those new to navigation but they would like a shorter course. This is also our youth/family friendly course!
O-Long = Experienced navigators who would like to hone their skills on the long course! The skill for this week is to choose an obvious feature so that you don't need to pay as much attention along the route. However the control may not be on the obvious feature but this still makes for an excellent attack point. Read the map carefully at the attack point.
O-Short = Experienced navigators who would like to run a shorter distance. Practice the same skills as the O-Long course.
Safety Precautions
This map crosses East Hastings Street and Renfrew Street. I have marked East Hastings Street as out of bounds except where there are traffic lights. DO NOT CROSS anywhere other than at the lights. I have not marked Renfrew Street as out of bounds but please only cross at pedestrian crossings or traffic lights when it is safe to do so.
Always use good judgement and common sense. Carry a whistle at all times. Headlamps are essential to see and be seen. Take care when crossing roads and parking lots. Watch out for other runners, cyclists, and trail/sidewalk users.
Parking/Start/Finish Locations
Start and Finish is at the covered area at Dr AR Lord Elementary School off East Pender street. There is ample parking in the school parking lot.
