Description

A new map for most orienteers...the last time we used this area was 2012. The map was created by Thomas Nipen when he kick-started the Club >10 years ago and has been lying dormant. We will be visiting a portion of Prince of Wales Map, an updated Quilchena Park as well as some lesser known areas and schools. The symbols are those of ISSOM (International Specification for Sprint O Maps). The terrain will be quite forgiving compared to last week, but significant climb will be encountered. Weather is going to be clear and relatively warm ;)

Schedule

6:15pm Introduction to Orienteering for Beginners

6:30pm Starts

8pm Course Closure, participants must report to the Finish before leaving.

Course

Longer course of 4 km, shorter course will be <2 km and will be intricately woven through the school yards and recreation areas.

Safety Precautions

Both longer and shorter courses cross major roads at traffic lights. Please use them ... we runners are painfully invisible to car drivers.

Carry a whistle at all times. Headlamps are essential on the longer course. Take care when crossing roads and parking lots.

Parking/Start/Finish Locations

We will meet under sheltered area located at the south side of Quilchena Elementary School, located at the corner of 37th and Laburnum.

Arbutus #16 or 41st Avenue #41 are both good choices. The paved Arbutus Greenway is a delightful bike (and now running) route.

Post-Event dining

White Spot Restaurant is located on West Boulevard between 37th and 38th Ave.
