July 27th 2016 6:30pm - 8:00pm
Organizers: Eric Christensen (Event Director), Ev Cousins (Membership), Rachel F (Controller), Matt Vickars (Coach)
Map: Grousewoods
Description
Come on up to Grousewoods this Wednesday evening for some warm-weather training! Just because a lot of people are off representing us at the Canadian and Western Canadian championships doesn't mean that those of us who stayed behind to "hold the fort" can't get out there for some orienteering action of our own. The Grousewoods area is chiefly residential with many oddly-curved streets conveniently inter-connected by a network of pedestrian trails. It is all on the side of a rather steep hill, so countour lines will need to be considered in route choice.
Schedule
6:15pm Introduction to Orienteering for Beginners
6:30pm Starts
8pm Course Closure, participants must report to the Finish before leaving.
Courses
2 courses are on offer: a long course that aims to provide more experienced orienteers with some big changes in pace, frequently switching from long legs with route choice down to short legs that will require you to pay close attention to your map. The short course is more suitable for beginners but will still have you sneaking through the foot paths between the streets.
Safety Precautions
Just a friendly reminder that beyond the fence from many of these convenient and fun pedestrian foot paths is someone's back yard (marked in olive green). Please be respectful of people's property and privacy.
Parking/Start/Finish Locations
Free parking is available on the East side of Nancy Greene way, just a few steps north of the Start-Finish. Please note that it is near sports fields so it is conceivable that users of these sports fields may fill up the parking lot. In that even, there is plenty of on-street parking above and below the start-finish.
