This is the first event at UBC since the campus was
re-mapped to the IOF sprint map standard. Leave your
spiked shoes and traditional o-suits at home. Since
the campus consists of roads, manicured lawns and many
close intricate buildings that range in style from
university gothic to post modern opt instead for
running shoes and urban running clothes.
There will be some snacks and some yummy prizes after
the event.
We will be using electronic punching so bring your SI
stick if you have one. If you don't have a stick we
have some to lend.
The start location is under the overhang of Buchanan
block D (across from the Chan centre)
We suggest parking in the Rose Garden parkade (the
cost is $3.50 flat rate)to get to the rose garden
parkade there are 3 options.
Drive straight along W 4th Avenue. The name of the
road changes to Chancellor Blvd. NW Marine will join
the road from the right. The parkade should be on your
left after the junction. If you see the museum of
anthropology you have gone too far.Drive into UBC on W16th avenue. Turn right on
Westbrook mall and left onto Chancellor Blvd. NW
Marine will join the road from the right. The parkade
should be on your left after the junction. If you see
the museum of anthropology you have gone too far.Drive to UBC along SW Marine drive the road curves
and changes names into NW marine drive. Go past the
Museum of anthropology and the parkade should be on
your right.
From the Rose Garden parkade walk down main mall away
from the flag pole and turn left down Crescent Drive.
We will be under the overhang in the building on your
right. The Chan Centre should be on your left.
We will be offering a beginners clinic at 9am. Please
e-mail me if you are interested.
Since many GVOC club members have ties to UBC and the
campus is a beautiful place to spend a sunday morning
I think this is the perfect event to bring new people
to. I hope that everyone will encourage someone who
has never tried orienteering to come out. Louise has
made posters for this event so if anyone would like to
distribute them to people they know who might be
interested or post them on campus or at work that
would be very helpful.
We hope to see you Sunday!
