PRINCE OF WALES - SCRABBLE-O (bring your wrist watch)
Organizer: Ian Collings
In keeping with the imaginative WETs as of late I thought I'd put together a score-o with a twist. Participants will collect scrabble letters at control points with the aim of scoring the highest possible scrabble word (or combination of words).
Official Scrabble-O Rules
1- There will be a limited number of letters at each at each control. Orienteers may collect one letter per control and may not return to a control for a second letter. When all the letters are gone they're all gone.
2- Speedier orienteers will be held back at the start giving everyone a chance (at the discretion of the organizer).
3 - English dictionary words only. No Czech, Swedish, or Swahili. No abbreviations or names of places or people etc.
4- Trading letters is not allowed.
5- In determining the Scrabble-O Champion participants will lay out their letters to create scoring word(s). Rare letters are worth more than common letters. You don't have to use all of your letters and your words don't have to (but can) connect with each other. e.g. with letters: T, O, L, W. "TO" could be crossed with "LOW" to score both words.
6- Course closure is 7:45 (bring a watch) those who are late will forfeit random letters.
Schedule
6:15PM - Introduction to Orienteering for Beginners
6:30PM - Starts begin
6:45PM - Mass start
7:45PM - Course Closure, participants must report to the Finish by Course Closure Time.
Courses:
There will only be one map but the format allows for an easier/shorter evening for beginners/families while challenging those looking for a tougher run.
Safety Precautions:
The map covers a range of trafficked public places. Participants are responsible for where they take their bodies - be careful, and be courteous.
Start/Finish Locations:
Close to Prince of Wales Secondary School (North End)
Post-Event Dining:
White Spot Kitsilano - 2518 W. Broadway (between Trafalgar & Larch)
