Description

The Deep Cove has several areas of woodland linked by streets.  The woodland can be thick but there are networks of trails.  The courses will go through Panorama Park which can be busy on a nice evening so please be careful. The map has also been recently updated by Andrea Balakova to show changes in vegetation and some new features at the northern end of Panorama Park.

Schedule

6:15 Introduction to Orienteering for Beginners

6:30 Starts begin

8:00 Course Closure, participants must report to the Finish by Course Closure Time.

Courses:

Two courses will be offered, both point-to-point courses.

The Easier/Shorter course has 11 controls over 2.0 km and is suitable for beginners/families.

The Longer/Harder course has 17 controls over 3.3 kms and there are several legs that encourage you to explore the less thicker parts of the woodland.

Safety Precautions:

Several roads will be crossed and while these are not main roads please watch out for traffic.

Parking/Start/Finish Locations:

Travel through Deep Cove and then along Rockcliffe Road.  Start is at covered picnic area on the edge of a large grassy area about 100 m east of the Deep Cove kayaking centre. There is a bus stop about 200 m to the NW on Banbury Rd.  There is also free parking on the street and just up the hill from the start on Rockcliffe Road

Post-Event Dining:

If it a nice evening the area around the start/finsih is a nice place to hang out and enjoy the view.
