Description
This Wednesday we are going to run on a brand new map. There is a lot of residential area on the map, but with some nice little forested parks in between the streets. We discovered this neighbourhood just couple of months ago and were happy to see all the little connecting trails and parks. It is a pretty hilly place and we are starting at the bottom of that hill. Big lungs will be needed tonight.
You will be running on residential streets with some traffic. Stay on the sidewalks whenever possible and be cautious while crossing.
Please respect all private property! Do not enter or cut corners through any gardens, driveways or flowerbeds. We want to start and maintain a good reputation in this area. Some trail entries/exits are very close to driveways or backyards. Olive green on the map stands for private.
It should be fun!
Schedule
6:15 Introduction to Orienteering for Beginners
6:30 Starts begin
8:00 Course Closure, participants must report to the Finish by Course Closure Time.
Courses:
Two courses will be offered, both of them will be point to point courses. The main difference is in the length. Both will be mostly about the route choice with some tricky orienteering in the forest part. You might want to challenge a friend and start the course in opposite direction. See who comes back first. We will print half of the maps backwards.
Safety Precautions:
You will be running on residential streets with some traffic. Stay on the sidewalks whenever possible and be cautious while crossing.
Parking/Start/Finish Locations:
Parking will be south of the soccer and baseball fields on Prospect Ave, between Capilano Rd and Cliffridge Ave. See marker on map below.
Start will be located above the soccer field, about 100 m north of the parking lot (up the hill).
Post-Event Dining:
There are a few options here. We will probably end up at the Wholefoods Market at the Park Royal in West Vancouver.
