Description

To Celebrate BACK to School we will visit 3 Schools and learn about route-selection and contours.  The Beginner course is a regular point to point, with text control descriptions. The Expert course is best done in pairs of people to compare different routes between controls.  There will be two maps with identical controls but different route lines shown on the map linking the controls.  For example, the route lines for person A might have bends to show them running west around a building while the route lines for person B would have bends to show them running East around a building.  Pairs of people, ideally of roughly the same running/orienteering speed, will start and stop at each control so it is also an interval work-out or O-terval. People can time each leg to compare route times with their partner. Many of the controls are placed on contour features, or adjacent to contour features so while resting between legs, you can discuss the different routes or look around at the contours.  Generally, the last person to the control should rest about 30 seconds before the pair starts the next leg.  It is OK to briefly look at your map before starting the leg so you run off in the correct direction.  I will have some example maps so people can get the idea before they start.
