Description

This week we return to the hilly but fast Greenwood Park. Since the map is small, we will be making things more exciting with a two-man relay. This will consist of four loops, team members alternating running. To help form even teams, we ask that elite category runners (age 21-34) pair with non-elite runners. The relay will begin with a mass start at 6:45.

There will also be a regular point-to-point course available for those who do not want to run the relay, and a beginner course.

Schedule

6:15 Introduction to Orienteering for Beginners

6:30 Individual starts begin for point-to-point course or non-mass starters

6:45 Relay mass start

8:00 Course Closure, participants must report to the Finish by Course Closure Time.

Safety Precautions:

Runners planning to be out late might want to consider a headlamp. It is starting to get dark at WETs, especially in the forest.

Parking/Start/Finish Locations:

Start and finish will be on the corner of 22nd Street and Moody Street.

Post-Event Dining:

TBA

Wednesday Evening Training

What should I bring? Wear something comfortable that you don't mind getting a little dirty! If it's wet outside, you might want to consider a change of shoes and socks! A headlamp or flashlight and reflective clothing is critical in the winter months (late September to April). A compass is optional (we have extra ones for borrowing). For added safety, a whistle is mandatory for all GVOC events.

When should I sign up? Please sign up by Tuesday night so that we can print enough maps, although we have extra maps if you forget.

How much does it cost? All WETs are free with yearly membership ($5 for newcomers and those under 21, $10 otherwise, $20 maximum per family)
