General GVOC Call for Volunteers to Organize WETs and...--

GVOC WET organizers wanted for the 2014 Wednesdays! The 2014 calendar of WETs remains to be filled. If you see a blank Wednesday it means it is available! Let us know if/when you would like to put on a WET! Without volunteers, GVOC events cannot take place!

ALSO: we are also currently recruiting for volunteers to help with COCs in August 2014. See http://gvoc.whyjustrun.ca/pages/38 for more information on some of the areas where we need help.

Description for this WET

Primary Organizers:

Event Director/Course Planner: Sergio Fernandez, Membership/Registrar: Karen Lachance, Trainer: Scott Muma

Description

This time a Memory-O and Score-O hybrid will give an advantage to the strategy over speed. Choose which controls to visit, but the challenge is not to find them, it is to remember where to do so. All of this happening while running in beach and open terrain with the beautiful views of Barnett Marine Park

Schedule

6:20pm Introduction to Orienteering for Beginners

6:30pm Starts begin for Point to Point course

6:45pm Mass Start for the Memo-Score-O

7:30pm Deadline of the Memo-Score-O

7:45pm Course Closure, participants must report to the Finish by Course Closure Time.

Courses:

Two courses will be offered, one of which is Easier with a traditional point to point structure and suitable for beginners/families. The second course will be a mix of a memory O and a score O. Many different controls will be found within the park and each participant will have a mostly blank map (corridor style) with all of those controls already on it. The full maps with trails, features and vegetation will be available in 4 different stations, so that the participants will be able to choose which and how many controls to visit, memorizing the route to each of them. The participants are allowed to visit the map stations as many times as they want, and also visit the controls in the order they want. The objective is to get as many controls as possible in the time allowed (45 min). It is going to be a mass start, so it's gonna be possible to see what strategy works best.

Safety Precautions:

Be ready for finding some black berry bushes around the park, so protection for arms and legs is recommended.
