Granville Island Wednesday Evening Training
May 22nd 2013 6:30pm
Organizers: Ran Guin (Event Director), Marg Ellis (Coach)
Map: False Creek
Primary Organizers:
Event Director/Course Planner, Membership/Registrar, Trainer
Description
This will be a standard point to point course with an option for Beginners, Intermediate & Advanced Orienteers.
The course is primarily in the False Creek region east of Granville Island, but there will be a few controls on Granville Island itself for the advanced course (and a couple of controls on GI for the intermediate course)
Schedule
6:15pm - Introduction to Orienteering for Beginners
6:30pm - Starts begin
8:00pm - Course Closure, participants must report to the Finish by Course Closure Time.
Courses:
Three courses will be offered:
Beginer course (< 2km) - easy and quite short - this is suitable for beginners/families.
Intermediate course (~2.5 km) - a bit more challenging, but not too long (you can try this if you found the beginner course too easy or you don't have time to do the full advanced course)
Advanced course (~4.5 km) - a bit more challenging and longer
Safety Precautions:
Routes are pretty safe and shouldn't need to cross any roads.
Please avoid running through small trails through enclosed residential sections on the map even though they may be shown on the map as 'legal'.
Parking/Start/Finish Locations:
Parking is hit & miss on Granville Island, but not generally too crazy in the evening
Note: It is looking like rain is more likely, so I have moved the start location to the covered area just west of the kids playground to ensure stowed gear stays reasonably dry.
Post-Event Dining:
... TBD
