The first Sunday WJR (Why Just Run) event of 2013 is the annual Pacific Spirit Park "Score-O". You'll have a set time to get to as many controls as you can, in any order you like, with further away ones worth more points. But you'll lose points for every minute you're back late, so you'll have to decide the best route and whether it's worth trying for that extra control or not!

There are two courses - a One-hour and a Two-hour. Many controls will be in easy-to-find locations, so either course is suitable for beginners - it just depends how long you want to be out for. An Introduction to Orienteering will be provided at 10:30am, so newcomers should sign up for the One-hour course. Please register by Friday Jan 11th so we know how many maps to print.

Membership renewal is now due for 2013 so please come a bit early to sign waiver and pay your membership fee (see above for amounts) plus event fee.

Each course will have a mass-start. The two-hour starts at 10 am and finishes at 12 noon. The one-hour starts at 11 am and also finishes at 12 noon. Electronic timing will be used, so bring your SI stick or rent one from us for $1. Compasses are also available for $1. Note: whistles are now mandatory for all GVOC events.

Start location is the upper parking lot at the park headquarters, halfway along W. 16th avenue, between Blanca St and Wesbrook Mall. Look for the orange/white signs. Parking is available in lot or along road. Bus stop is right out front.

There will be snacks at the finish and we'll probably go for lunch afterwards - all are welcome to join us.
