Map: Queen Elizabeth Park

Description

This weeks WET will work on compass skills. It's a good follow on for those who attended the forest training or a good time to brush up on some compass work as we head into a summer and more forest maps.

We will have a short compass clinic at 6:15 for anyone who hasn't navigated by compass bearing before or anyone who'd like to brush up on their skills. The loops will be the exercises following the training.

Queen Elizabeth park is popular and everyone will be crossing/running along roads so keep an eye out for traffic as you go.

Please sign up by 6pm Tuesday evening to ensure we have enough maps printed.... although we'll also have a few spares :-)

Schedule

6:15pm Introduction to Orienteering for Beginners

6:15pm Compass Skills Clinic

6:30pm Starts

8:00 pm Course Closure, participants must report to the Finish before leaving.

Courses

The novice course has two loops, the first being easier than the second, both suitable for beginners or those fairly new to orienteering.

The expert sign up will be for three loops, each about 1.3km, you can do as many as you want or have time for. The course has been set up to run from control to control along a bearing with few obstacles along the way, although you'll also be missing the map in this area so it won't be too straightforward!

Safety Precautions

Always use good judgement and common sense. Carry a whistle at all times. Headlamps are essential to see and be seen. Take care when crossing roads and parking lots. Watch out for other runners, cyclists, and trail/sidewalk users.

Parking/Start Location:

The start will be beside the big parking lot up by the bodel conservatory. This area is pay parking but there is free street parking around the park with just a short walk up to the start.
