UPDATE:

Thanks everyone for coming out and picking up bits of trash from the park! Hilary brought back the most impressive piece (a large gross pillow). My timing device reset at some point so many of your times might not be accurate...fortunately this week's event is like "Who's Line is It Anyway", where the points don't matter ;) If you happened to time yourself and would like that time listed, send me an email and I can update (note that the times posted include the time-bonuses).

Next week's event is the real deal with electronic timing and full control flags!

Description

This week we will explore Trout Lake! In honor of my birthday, there will be time-bonuses for those who collect "presents" on course. Bring a spare plastic bag because for each piece of trash/garbage/matter-out-of-place you pick up during the run will earn you 1 minute off your time (maximum 5 minutes deducted, but no limit on the amount of trash you can collect!). Special consideration will be given to unusually large pieces of trash. Let's leave this park cleaner than when we arrived!

*For safety, do not pick up anything that is sharp or could be dangerous.

Schedule

6:15pm Introduction to Orienteering for Beginners

6:30pm Starts

8pm Course Closure, participants must report to the Finish before leaving.

Courses

Beginner/Short - This course is beginner friendly and a shorter option.

Advanced/Long - This course is longer and requires more route choice and planning. However, this park area is not exceptionally tricky terrain so newcomers may try this course if they'd like a longer adventure.

Safety Precautions

Always use good judgement and common sense. Carry a whistle at all times. Headlamps are essential to see and be seen. Take care when crossing roads and parking lots. Watch out for other runners, cyclists, and trail/sidewalk users.

Parking/Start Location

The start and finish area is indicated on the map below. There is the community center parking lot nearby and possibly street parking in the area.

Post-Event Dining

TBD
