Map: Barnet Marine Park

Description

Come out and enjoy the views from this nice little park at the foot of Burnaby Mountain, where Burrard Inlet forks into Indian Arm and Port Moody Arm and maybe a picnic after.

The beginner course is a basic point-to-point around the park which is suitable for a quick run or a family adventure, with less than 15m of total elevation gain.

The memory-O course will require your full concentration and is good as a head-to-head o-terval, or a solo outing.  Map stations are marked on the map and can be visited any time your brain needs to be refilled.  For extra challenge you can go with no map at all and just remember/discover where the map stations are.

Schedule

6:15pm Introduction to Orienteering for Beginners

6:30pm Starts

8pm Course Closure, participants must report to the Finish before leaving.

Courses

Beginner course and a Memory-O course will be offered.

Safety Precautions

Carry a whistle at all times.

Parking/Start/Finish Locations

There is typically good availability of parking at the lots when you first come off Barnet Highway.  There is no parking beyond the railroad tracks, but you can drop people off if you have a large group or need disabled parking.

The Start will be near the eastern washroom building and is shown on the map.  I will try and grab a picnic table near there.

Post-Event dining

Bring your own picnic and enjoy weather-permitting.  There is nothing very close by, but lots to choose from on St. John's in Port Moody or Hastings in Burnaby.
