Description

Deep Cove is a lovely area with several forested parks connected by streets. Three courses are offered: Beginner, Intermediate, and Expert. It's my birthday this week so stick around after for a picnic (or if the weather is awful, we will go for dinner as usual).

Schedule

6:15 pm - Introduction to Orienteering for Beginners

6:30 pm - Starts begin for both courses

8:00 pm - Course Closure, participants must report to the Finish by Course Closure Time.

Courses:

Beginner: Shorter and less technical navigation. Controls are all on trails.

Intermediate: A bit longer and a bit more technical. Some shared controls with the expert course. Requires some off-trail navigation.

Expert: The usual; longer and mostly off-trail controls. Spectator controls at the end which takes you by Honey's Donuts which unfortunately will be closed by the time you run past.

Safety Precautions:

You may find yourself distracted by delicious blackberries. Keep your focus on the task at hand! Or stop to pick berries, I'm not the boss of you. However, carry a whistle at all times in case of injury!

You may want to have covered legs.... I have some nice scratches from the blackberry bushes. But, you could also get by in shorts.

Parking/Start/Finish Locations:

There is some parking near the start location or you can park along Raeburn Street. The start will be in an open grassy area near the beach and a picnic area (see map).

Post-Event Dining:

Picnic in the park! Bring stuff for yourself or something to share. I'll probably make some sort of dessert :)

*Update* I've made fudge and will certainly need the club's help in eating it!
