General GVOC Call for Volunteers to Organize WETs and...--

Without volunteers, GVOC events cannot take place! The 2014 calendar of WETs remains to be filled. 

If you are interested in volunteering to organize a WET please let us know.

Description

Steep ravine of Byrne Creek hosted Sunday event of last Sprint Camp few weeks ago. Come and  refresh your memories or just have some fun with run.

Schedule

06:30pm Start of event (Individual Starts, Introduction to Orienteering for Beginners, Membership...)

08:00pm Course Closure, participants must report to the Finish by Course Closure Time.

Courses:

Classic point-to-point orienteering. Two courses will be offered. Easy Course will be suitable for beginners. It will be shorter (circa 2 km), with easy route choices and smaller elevation difference. Advanced will be suitable for advanced orienteers. It will include longer distance (circa 3.5 km), more challenging terrain and crucial route choices.

Safety Precautions:

Large part of this area is steep ravine of Byrne Creek with forest vegetation. Extra caution is strongly recommended during running on slippery trails, bushwhecking, crossing of water flows etc. Whistle is mandatory equipment for all participants. Be respectful to other runners, pedestrians, dog walkers, cyclists and cars especially in urban parts of map.

Parking/Start/Finish Locations:

Small parking lot in SW corner of Ron McLean Park. Same meeting point as during last Sprint Camp. Close to public washrooms.
