Description for this WET

Primary Organizers:

Emily Ross - Event Director/Course Planner

Description

Vanier Park is a mixture of grass fields, buildings, and a small forest section with trails. There will be a dog bones course as well as a point-to-point course for beginners. Dog bones is an type of score-o event, but you have to get pairs of controls in the order of your choice instead of a single control. It's up to you to decide which order you think is the fastest. If you've never done dog bones before, it's lots of fun with some quick decision making! The ground is really soggy right now, so wear something you're prepared to get wet!

Schedule

6:30pm Introduction to Orienteering for Beginners

6:30pm Starts begin

8:00pm Course Closure, participants must report to the Finish by Course Closure Time.

Courses:

Two courses will be offered, one of which is shorter point-to-point course and suitable for beginners/families. The other of which is a longer dog bones course (although you can make it any length you want).

Safety Precautions:

It's wet!  Bring a headlamp as it will be dark.  Also, some of the course goes on single track trails, so you might prefer long pants. A whistler is also required. There may be some cars although it is a very low traffic road. Please use caution when crossing roads.

Parking/Start/Finish Locations:

The parking, finish, and start location is at the City of Vancouver Archives parking lot close to the Vancouver museum. Parking is free after 5:30pm and there are also pay parking lots around the area. The closest bus stop is at Cypress and Cornwall (the 2 and 22 stop here).

Post-Event Dining:

A restaurant in the neighbourhood. Perhaps Rocky Mountain Flatbread Company?

General GVOC Call for Volunteers to Organize WETs and...--

GVOC WET organizers wanted for the 2014 Wednesdays! The 2014 calendar of WETs remains to be filled. If you see a blank Wednesday it means it is available! Let us know if/when you would like to put on a WET! Without volunteers, GVOC events cannot take place!

ALSO: we are also currently recruiting for volunteers to help with COCs in August 2014. See http://gvoc.whyjustrun.ca/pages/38 for more information on some of the areas where we need help.

Acknowledgements:

Without volunteers, these events cannot take place. A hearty thanks to all those helping put this event on. If you would like to volunteer/help at upcoming WETs/WJRs or would like to organize a WET please let us know.
