Courses

We'll be offering 3 courses this week:

  • Beginner: 1.8 km, with straightforward route choice and navigation
  • Advanced Short: 3.3 km, with more challenging route choice, and trickier navigation
  • Advanced Long: 5 km, with more challenging route choice, and trickier navigation and slightly longer course

Central Park is a large urban park, with some well defined trails and a spider web of trickier indistinct trails throughout the park which should make the courses pretty fun:) That being said, someone newer to orienteering should probably be able to make out ok on the advanced courses as the navigation is mostly on trail.

Schedule

6:30 pm Starts and Introduction to Orienteering for Beginners

8:00 pm Course Closure, participants must report to the Finish before leaving.

Safety Precautions

Always use good judgement and common sense. Carry a whistle at all times. Take care when crossing roads and parking lots. Watch out for other runners, cyclists, and trail/sidewalk users.

Parking/Transit/Start Location:

Starts will be from NE corner of the Boundary Rd/Central Park pool parking lot.

Parking should be available in Boundary Rd/Central Park pool parking lot.

Buses run along Kingsway and Imperial, and Skytrain stop at Patterson is approximately 1 km from the start.

There should be bike racks by the pool and around the park and there will be someone at the start at all times.
