Description

Standard point-to-point courses. The longer courses visit the newly-mapped bike park and surrounding trails now that the 'campers' have left the area. This is Wet Coast terrain and the blackberry brambles are luxuriant but only off the trails - we've done lots of pruning. Do not try to force yourself through any area mapped as green! Trails through green areas are fine, however.

Schedule

6:15  Introduction to Orienteering for Beginners

615 Starts begin

8:00 Course Closure, participants must report to the Finish by Course Closure Time.

Courses:

Three courses will be offered, one of which is easier and relatively short (1.5 km) - suitable for beginners/families. The second course is longer (2.9km) and more techincally challenging. The third course is 5.3 km long and intended for superbly conditioned athletes capable of sub-forty minute times over 10 km. Of course, others may try it at their own risk ;-)

Safety Precautions:

Bring a headlamp if you expect to be out after 7:30 pm. After 8 pm, we will assume that you are lost, and will mount a search and rescue operation. Or maybe we will just go out for dinner.......

Parking/Start/Finish Locations:

Start at the flagpole on Vanier Point, near Bard on the Beach (see location map). There's some free parking on the streets to the east of the Planetarium. Pay lots in the park, itself. Least expensive is the gravel lot near the bike park.

Post-Event Dining:

Rocky Mountain Flatbread at 1st and Cypress is a neighbourhood fave.
